Master Cognitive Science (Study Regulation 2024)

The Master’s program comprises a mandatory area, a mandatory elective area, the free electives, and the Master’s thesis.

In the mandatory area, students participate in a one-year study project in a group of around 10 students. During the project, the students should prove that they can independently formulate and solve a problem from a scientific context using the methods and theoretical knowledge accessible to them through their studies.

In the mandatory elective area, students can choose to specialize in up to two of the focus areas “Cognition: Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning”, “Cognition: Mind, Ethics, and Society”, “Cognition: (Computational) Neuroscience” and “Cognition: Psychology, Language, and Communication”.

In the free electives, Master students can take further courses depending on their interests, including further courses from Cognitive Science and related disciplines, language courses, or other courses.

In the thesis, students demonstrate their ability to conduct independent research, critically analyze findings, and contribute original knowledge to their field of study.
